The problem I find is that with regular, screw type of drill sometimes the rock just crack. Maybe a burr type drill with diamond dust might not cause such focal force and crack rocks?
So the ones I used above, I already had in my tool box so I gave it a shot and worked. The Marcos already had indentations or small crevices and simply drilled through with no issues. I used 1/2 and 5/8. Try to control the drill speed.
The masonry bit Turbonut mentioned will work much better.
The masonry bit doesn’t have the sharpness in the end. Is like welded bead across shaped like an arrow so it shouldnt catch as much.
Also if you’re using a chuck drill, use the clutch. Set it very low so it doesn’t have the torque to crack the rock
A standard drill. The chuck is the part of the drill you spin to tighten down on a bit. Most chuck drills have clutch setting just behind that that will be a numbered collar you can spin for different settings. Lower the number the sooner the clutch will engage and slip keeping you from over tightening things.
Looks like 1/2 is best then. Thanks for the infos. Yes I do have a chuck drill then. I think the punch drill bit with diamond dust should work. Can’t wait to get started
