long time lurker first time posting.

Currently have a 55g tank that has a built in filtration system. I have a Eshopp HOB skimmer in the first chamber, chaetoe with a LED light on the second and third chamber i have live rock with ceramic media on top of the live rock.

Is this set up okay? I can't do a sump at the moment.

Thank you for your help .

Yeah I think so. If you have some live rock in the display you could always forgo the live rock under the ceramic media. That way the detritus won't settle in that section.

What Bean said.

I battled constant nitrates when I had my Nanocube. Once I removed the live rock from the rear chamber and siphoned from the chambers everyother water change my problem was solved.

I always ran Chemi-Pure Elite in my media rack and change it 1x a month. Worked great.

I went thru the samething. Piled up a bunch of LR rubble behind my AIO. A month later detritud covered LR. Removed all and did perfectly fine.

That is a good idea to do that, just really don't see the point in creating more work for yourself. With so many other things to do best to keep it simple in my opinion.

+100 to this ^^^^^^^^
By adding to the maintenance that we do, the likelihood that we will at some point get lazy grows exponentially. Keeping things simple is the best plan methinks.

I have another question..

About 3-4 months i had an issue with my tank killing off some of my pulsating xenias; after several test my water turned out it was too clean. So my LFS suggested i do less frequent water changes. So i stopped and now its been a 1 1/2 since i changed the water; i just keep topping it off with RO/DI and my coral seem to love it. Is there any reason i should change the water other than remove some of the crap ?
