So my lawnmower has done his job and got rid of the green hair algae I had...

I actually think he is a real character so don't want to get rid of him so what is the best food to feed him on?

I use the frozen cube food at the moment and nori but need to shop for some more food soon... all the other fish feed when I put food in the tank but don't see him eating it.

Try some algae based pellets or even wafers. Nori is good as well if he will take it

I want to feed him directly but despite being laid back when you are near the tank he hides as soon as I open the top of the tank for feeding but the other fish all come to my hand, albeit cautiously.

The tang is so greedy he'll take the whole nori strip for himself!

The wafers might work out then. They sink so you might break them up to smaller bite sized pieces. Drop them in and step back for a bit see if be goes for them

Same worry with ours, algae wafers, they sink to the bottom and that's typically where they prefer to feed (hesucks the walls and rocks and dislikes the floor so we've been wedging nori and wafers where only he can reach [greedy tang and clowns steal his food]), try to get him accustom to those and to keep eating the algae. avoid non algae diets.

ha.. just noticed my husband posted the thread

I don't feed my lawnmover anything! He eats algae on the back wall and among the rocks and he still fat lol. It's been 3 months since I bought him....but I have a 180 tank so there're plenty of things for him to graze on

Haha that's funny. I think yours get spoiled and developed a taste for meaty food. I feed my tangs very little so there is no food sinking to the sand so he has to eat algae. I would give it to you for free but the guy is too fast to catch. He's fine when I'm looking from the outside but as soon as open the lid he's gone! :)

You sure your blenny took care of the GHA and not your tangs? Mine's been in the tank forever and just eats whatever I feed the rest of the tank (doesn't go near the nori though). You're right about them being characters though - he's the one fish that has made it through all my tank problems. Wouldn't trade him for the world.

Do you turn off your pumps when you feed? Maybe giving the food a little more time to be suspended will get him to eat it??

My tangs eat some of the algae too but i'm sure the blenny eats most of it. I tried to feed him pellets, frozen, nori before but he wouldn't touch it.
When I feed the tangs I just dropped in 5-10 pellets at a time to make sure it's all consumed. The pellets usually don't make it past half way down the tank before its all gone

Ya.. funny!.. lol maybe when I'm not elbow deep in the tank with the gha brush and a sore shoulder! lol ,it is cute how he leaves kiss marks on the glass when it's dirty :)This stuff is kicking my butt! If you ever get a chance to catch him..I would be alllll over trading my carnivore for him! "Sarge" is a 4 inch little tub of lard!! Def NOT a hider... He is in everybody's business! LOl

Mine started out about 2 years ago as a baby n i mean baby. He has been through 6 moves and 3 seperate tanks. He use to eat GHA and wipe it out on the quickness. As of lately i guess he is just getting older and has stoped eating GHA as of the last 2 months. He's always ate flake food and new life spectrum garlic pellets, and a lil bit of frozen here and there. Fat lil bastard has let the GHA build up in a pocket and i find him just laying on it all the time like its his blanket,. Those guys sure do have alot of charcter.
