Is it the par30 Lights of America 4100K LED?.. I got that same one but from Walmart.... They also have it in 11 watt par38 that's super bright and amazing for refugium.. my chaeto flurish under that light... can't beat the 3 year warranty on those things...

I'm using 9w white LED crew bulbs bought from Samclub. It's so bright. It's 15 bucks

Im curious, what are you guys putting in your refugium.. pics please if possible.. I was convinced to go mineral mud, rock and cheato but I see a lot of people not using mud, some people just use rock, other use sand.. what are the benefits of each?

caulerpa is not illegal to own, it's illegal to distribute... you can't advertise it or sell it... even trade for it... but if it's in your tank, it's no big deal...

24" tank, i would use something with red and blue 3W LED's... maximum growth for algae right there... but it might be more efficient and convenient to just buy a dual T5HO fixture and get two purple plus bulbs...

my current 30 gallon fuge is the middle compartment of my sump and gets all sump flow, which is ~900gph. therefore it is a high flow fuge... its a compromise like my entire system.

I have a 1/2 inch of miracle mud (2008) then 6inch DSB then 2 inches of loose rubble rock above that... I shoulda revived the mud a long time ago...too much work

Im growing macro and mangroves. the mangroves took a long time to get established, like 6 months, during which time they sent roots all over the place. Im not sure how much nutrients they pull out, but they look pretty. You should have some air space above the fuge to let them grow out. You also have to collect their fallen leaves before they breakdown or circulate in the DT...

In terms of macro, Ive tried several cheato and many different species of calurpa before they were illegal (everything is illegal to own in this communist state!). Most of the calurpa outgrew then overgrew cheato within 6 weeks. They also had fascinating morphs and colors, not just a big ball of spaghetti Too bad, you new aquarists dont know what your missing. As a safety, Ive always had a ORP meter. When I harvest the macro it goes into my mulch pile (worms!!!), and eventually under my wifes plants...

Yeah, I figured I would need some red 700nm light to hit those accesory pigments. Blues for the 440-490nm range main chlorophyls. So I feel a major "investment" (haha waste of $) coming...

I have the JBJ LED nano fuge white light. Its ok, just not bright enough.

Im leaving CF, T5 and even MH lighting all together because mainly im lazy to chage out the bulbs...

a really robust fuge can feed SPS/LPS well, better than anything from the frozen reef food section... live plankton, pods, misc oils/secretions...

you understand why it's illegal to distribute right...? the last time in i think 06' there was an outbreak of the tropical strain (reef aquarium strain) of c. taxifolia in long beach, took almost two years to get rid of it... you know how they did it...? they put a huge tarp over the patch of algae, and pumped chlorine under there, killing everything under it... and it wasn't in the sand, it was in the tide pools and other rocky bottoms of california...

not cool...

don't throw it away in the trash or in the sink... i think we're supposed to freeze it over night first...
