I try to keep my tank between 78-81F. Today another reefer told me that corals generally grow better at a lower temp of around 76-78F.

Research on the web shows temps all over the place. Some state that SPS grow better in the lower temp range while others contradict this. Most say that it depends on what you have in your tank. Others say that lighting is more important than temp.

What temp do you keep your reef tank at for optimal growth?

74 is too low. corals will grow fastest around 82-82, I'm fairly sure I've read more than anecdotal evidence on this. They are a bit more sensitive at those temps, though. anywhere from 77-82 is fine. Generally, stability is more important than one specific temp. I keep mine at 79-81.
