I keep sps and my tank is aight
nah actually stability is more important than the number itself for the most part.
I agree with the stability! I guess i should have been more clear. I was coming from a point that if you are testing you are either checking to make sure the tank is stable or make adjustments like set a doser or carx. If the figures were ballpark ( and i actually never used ati i was just going off what he said about ballpark) then your adjustments might not be accurate right? I recently had some issues with alk fluctuating because of incorrect alk values.

Also, by no means did i mean to offend any api users!!! I am sure there are plenty of sps users that are more successful than salifert users! Just as some think scripts water in sd isn't good for reefs, but i see thriving reefs all the time on this water... Just making small talk thats all.

All good. I believe in getting good equipment but I think this is one of those times where there is no correlation between expensive alk tests to having sucessful tank. I do stress that consistency with getting the same result time after time is crucial so once the baseline for comparison is there, it's just a matter of keeping it there.

I think as long as the test is decent ballpark should be fine... if you are testing for a 10.1 and it swings from 10.0-10.2 I don't think that's a big deal... now if the test is like 1dkh off that's a big deal.

I don't know much... but I do know I don't like to stress and if you are trying to maintain an exact precise level you will stress over it a lot.

It sounds like salifert/api/hanna/red sea should all be decent. Pick one and stick with it. Just make sure you test every time the exact same way. For example when you fill up the cuvet, if you fill the water to the bottom of the line do it like that every time. Same when measuring everything else. Always measure to the same level.

That's one thing I don't like about the hanna calcium kit, all those stupid little scoops and powders. but I still use it lol

Agreed as long as the alk is within acceptable range. I had a fluctuation of about .5dkh in my little frag tank and had some rtning because of it! :/

sorry for shooting out an excessive amount of "reagent" on you last time you tested your ph.

I've used Hanna checker for the last 6 months, check about x2 per week. Last week I used Salifert and its reads about 1.5 lower. I just ordered new Hanna agents to compare.
