Hi my name is Cameron!

I have 0 experience in anything to do with fish related things including fresh water. and I really want to get into a saltwater tank. can anyone tell me what I need to get started an approximately how much money is required to start. If you use abbreviations please tell me what they mean also as i don't not know what they all mean. When including parts tell me what they do and why I need them.

What I want to do is get a pretty nice tank size also, 30 is fine nothing into the 100's though. preferably to have the cast of finding nemo in a tank. and plenty of corals.

any suggestions?
if you have anything I could use let me know :)

I'm just messing with you. Although.... ;)

And BTW, you came to the right place. Just keep reading the forums and interacting and you'll be all set!

Here's a couple of things to answer your OP (original post). You won't be able to keep all the cast from Finding Nemo, nor Finding Dory but there are a couple of guys you can get. You might have to decide between a couple...

Take some time to decide what you really want in the tank. Study online about the compatibility and requirements of each.

If you want corals, you need good lights (expensive) and good filtration (expensive).

If you just want fish and rocks, that's a better place to start and cheaper too.

Once you set up your tank, you won't be able to put any animals in it for some time. So, consider that.

In a 30 gallon done right look to spend around $900

Tank, stand, sump, and canopy $400 for a nice setup.
Lighting can rang from $100 to $800 depending on what kind of lighting u want.

Pump your looking around $150. A return and a circulation pump. U need proper water flow to maintain a health environment.

Skimmer is going to run u around $100

Maybe a $100 in live rock and sand.

This hobby is not cheap.

Welcome to SCR. There a lot of helpful people here. Bloat (porcupine puffer) and dori (blue hippo tang) need 180 gallon aquarium minimum. Gil (moorish idol) are really picky eaters and die to novice keepers. The initial cost of a good setup is normally over$1000 depends on size.
