I am trying to set up a 4x2x2 tank. My drain is 1.5" I want to maximize the amount of water that flows through the system. I am debating between a 3/4" and a 1" return bulk head. I know if you increase the diameter you decrease the pressure, but I don't know if the decrease in pressure will be detrimental or even substantial. Anybody wanna give me some hits?

There's a way of calculating it. But if you're really worried go 1" and make it so you can down size to 3/4 if needed. Use a bulk head with inside threading. Doesn't hurt to restrict the output for more pressure. But I'd just put a ball valve on the return line if the pressure is too high.

I might suggest going with a gate valve and not a ball valve if you can afford it.
