I go to Hawaii almost every year and I always though it was illegal. How did you take fish back with you? Always wanted to but didnt want to get in trouble...
You can go to the LFS the day you depart. At the airport tell the TSA you have live fish. They will manually inspect each bag and see if the fish are swimming to be exempt of bringing liquids on board. Just bring a sturdy water proof type bag to place some of your bagged fish that is within the dimensions of a carry on. After TSA inspected the fish I place each bag in a few plastic type grocery bags in case the bag leaks. Don't want to piss off the stewardess if one of the bags leaked in the plane cabin. I used a large beach bag for carrying our beach towels and placed the bagged fish in it. Then placed the fish in the overhead in the plane and thats all to it. You can't bring corals back as corals are restricted. I only brought 3 fish just for fun. Flame Angel for $25, Long Nose for $15 and a Naso Tang for $20 in Oahu.

You can catch your own fish as well but lots of beaches in Oahu is exempt from fish collecting. You need a permit which is free or very cheap from Hawaii Fish and Game

Got diving in Cozumel. I agree you wont get much with snorkling but i have disagree that you wont see anything diving . I saw a variety of brain corals and mostly sps. Also, a variety of tangs and i did see a couple of Achilles tangs. Remember to go when the waves aren't that big ( sometimes it gets stormy for no reason). Lastly most of those hotels are all inclusive so if your diving/snorkling trip isn't successful hit the all inclusive bar and it usually improves your mood.

We went to Cancun and stayed at Moon Palace Resorts a couple of yrs ago. The weather was nice and had a great time there. We are going back and going to stay at Omni Cancun Hotel and Villas by end of this coming June. Just be careful with those timeshares reps...they will do whatever it takes to get you to buy the time shares.
