Chaeto death cycle

So my chaeto seems to go through a death cycle ever month or so. Its being rotated around and trimmed, however every month or two, I have a large portion of it die off and after removing the dead portion, it seems to grow back. Is this normal or is something wrong with the water chemistry?

Do u have algae problems in ur DT? If not then it cus the chaeto has nothing to feed off like no3 or po4. Idk but my chaeto grow best when in a low flow area.

Do you use a filter sock? I used to use socks and my chaeto grew so slow. after I stopped using them, my algae took off.
