Most of the other macro algaes are invasive (caluerpa) and are illegal in California because they infect coastal waters.

Most macro algaes have the ability to go Asexual and in an instant release all the nutrients they have collected and nuke a smaller tank.

Chaeto doesn't require a substrate, doesn't go asexual. Will live in just about any salinity of water and is super easy to control so it doesn't over run an aquarium.

When other macro algaes get too impacted the algae in the center or bottom that doesn't get light will die off and release nutrients.

Chaeto grows in a clump and the center of the clump doesn't ever die - While it may not grow any longer and get as dense as possibile. Once you pull the clump apart it will immediately go back to gowing.
