So I've never had a chalice before, I actually don't remember it being in the hobby back in the days, or I didn't pay attention since I only had a nano before. I know it is a LPS similar to a favia. I recently got a small frag of favia, and it is doing well on the sand bed, and the sweepers are tiny on mine. So I'm thinking I can keep chalices too.

Are they hard to keep? If a SPS and Chalice fought, who would win? I'm a bit scared to put a chalice and then it just encrusts like a monti, killing everything it touches with its sweepers. Is this why most people put this on the bottom of the tank to keep them away from SPS and other corals?

Are there certain chalices that have longer sweepers?

I think most folks put them on the sandbed as chalices do better under lower par. IME, low light, low-medium flow they will do best. Some chalices have short sweepers and some get a few inches long and enjoy being target fed after lights out.
SPS lose to just about every LPS and to each other

Just texted you some of my favs. They are VERY slow growers though, hence the price. That said — my WWC Goldmeister is a beast!
Chalices will kill your SPS - don’t put them on sand, get buried and die. Put them on the bottom since they don’t like/need strong flow and/or light.
