With all this hot weather lately, it has reminded me I need to break down and buy a chiller before summer. I'm not sure what I should be looking for. What size for a 100 gallon tank? Any brands that are better than others? How loud/quiet are they? Any help you can give would be appreciated. Thanks!

Try a fan blowing across the sump or tank surface first before you dump all that money into a chiller. My system is in the garage and I have an 8" fan blowing across the sump on a controller. It hasn't gone above 80 yet. You'll have more evaporation so top off is a must.

Is there less evaporation with the chiller? I have a fan currently, but my wife doesn't like the fan. It blows air into our living room.

A chiller won't create more evaporation than not having one. The water runs from your sump, into the chiller and back to your tank/sump (tank preferrably).

i have a chiller on my 6 gal and i dont notice any change in evap. with the chiller. When i had my 60gal with a fan in the sump you could practically see the water level go down in the sump.(not really but you get the idea)
