chiller pump size

Hey guys I have question regarding what size I should use for my JBJ 1/3hp chiller. Can I use a RIO 1700 to run this properly?

Flowrate Chart for rio 1700:

JBJ 1/3hp chiller

Minimum flow rate = 480 max flow rate = 2400

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thx

I'm not running the return back in the tank. I have the pump where my drain is and the return is where all my return pump is, on the opposite side of the sump.

This is what im using on my tank for the chiller. I run it back to the sump area also.

so what you're saying is that the bigger the pump is the less it will take the chiller to cool the tank?

actually no. These are designed to work within a certain range of flow. so if you have little flow it will chill to much, too much flow = not enough cooling time. thats why i say 900 for you. My tank chills with a 1/4hp and does 10 degrees in about an 1hr. but since my temp is steady it never need to do that.

its usually a good idea to install a ball valve inline after the exit out of the chiller and this way you can control the water contact time with the cooling coil, you have to dial it in.
