Hi everyone,

Im setting up my first saltwater tank and have got all my equipment and am in the process of cycling my tank. I picked up a used 1/4th chiller from my LFS the brand was ActiveAqua. I havent heard of this brand so i looked it up and found it on a lot of hydroponic websites. The chiller works great and cools down the tank quickly. However the built in thermostat is set at a 3 degree interval. Therefore when i set it for 78 degrees it wont kick on until the tank is 81 degrees. My concern is when the lights are on the chiller goes on and off about every 20-30 mins. Will the 3 degree temperature fluctuations happening every 20-30 minutes put fish/corals in stress or shorten their life?

Sorry for the long post, but thanks for all the feedback in advance!

Use a controller with a temp probe to turn the chiller on and off based on what the probe is reading. They are accurate to a tenth of a degree.

If I have to I will do that, but I would rather save my money if it won't have a major affect on thr tank inhabitants.
