Well, without much thought, the girlfriend fell in love with a chocolate chip star. So far, in this 55g, its him, a clarkii clown, 2 sgt major damsels and a royal gramma...
After more thought and a bit of reading on the star, I think I just screwed myself out of being able to have coral.... any that they won't try to eat?

If you buy a harlequin shrimp then your coral will be safe. Harlequins eat stars, lol. And chances are your lady will like them too.

I had one years ago but it died. I've never been able to keep stars alive but then again that was a long time ago

My brother in law had one in his mixed reef for months. Never touched his Lps or softys. I think some eat coral and some don't. I have one in my sump, it's been in there for almost 2 years. I bought 4 of them to feed my harlequin shrimp. Every couple weeks I would cut off a leg of one of the stars and feed it to the shrimp. Unfortunately the shrimp got eaten by my Sargassum trigger.

Now I kinda dig the choco star in my sump. Always pull him out and show kids when they come over. Kind of a fun show and tell. Or when I have friends over and the booze starts pouring, the star always ends up out and getting passed around. Lol

My brother in law has one, but he put him in the sump when he got coral. Just toss it in the sump!

I had one for years in my sps tank and it never touched anything. One day I was bored and gave him away. I still have my sand stirring starfish, the bugger survived it all from new tank to rookie mistake including high nitrate and many other things lol
