I would think water temp would b a big factor. Cali's coast is a bit colder then what we keep our tanks at.

Well I noticed it likes to dig. Think it might need huge sand bed. It's litterly like 6 inches. Got a couple smaller ones that might be ok.

Sorry I don't mean to b a downer. I just thought u should know the risks. Cause idk doesn't work with ca fishing and wildlife. And the fines are crazy huge. My bro got a poaching ticket for detaching a lobster head from a lobsters tail. The ticket cost him $1500 plus a day's pay to sit at the court house in long beach.

It's cool. Like you said water temps ain't the same. Plus it needs deep sand. No need to kill something for no reason. Unless I eat it. Huuuu. Lol. Jk already pit it back

if you have fishing license and that clam is 5" across then it's legal for you to take but, it will not survive in our reef tank because the temp differences in ocean and our tank. Our ocean temps are from 68 in winter and 72 in summer plus minus.

A good friend of ours (who helps with the MAX show) is a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge.

They once had a "California Cold Tank" full of rock anemones, hermit crabs, etc. that they had collected during their strolls along the P.V. peninsula

I'm thinking that you'll be fine.

The real challenge is keeping the water temp around 70 degrees or less. Small tank + big chiller is likely mandatory equipment

Cool find. Yes our waters are temprate not tropical. But that being said shore dwellers are exposed to much higher tempratures as wel as salinity and nutrient changes. So you could put it in you tank. But double check local laws on the fish and game website.
Also there may be several 1 and 2 mm sand clams living in a tank i know of that have been in there for about 6 months quite sucessfully till geoge the giant hermet ate one.
