Hello everyone!
I am fairly new to the saltwater hobby but I have set up a reef tank for around 3 months now and I have fell in love with it. From day 1, I've always wanted a clam and i'm wondering which kind of clam would be the easiest to keep? The only problem with my system is that I have a very low powered fluval led light system. All my parameters are in check, however, and I am wondering if light is the most important factor to clam keeping. Thanks!

Welcome Gary Lee. Clams need a stable, mature system. They require reef quality water parameters(high alkalinity, calcium, magnesium) and intense lighting. I would invest in quality test kits and focus on maintaining stable water parameters for at least a few more months before you consider a clam. On that note, a derasa clam would be my recommendation for a good "starter" clam. Start an intro thread on the welcome mat and tell us about your system and post pics. Also tell us more about this LED lighting you have...

Thanks for the reply El Dude. Right now I use Elos test kits to test for Calcium, nitrate, Magnesium and Phosphate. I have an API test kit for high alkalinity. Is there anything you'd recommend to test for? Thanks though, i'll wait a couple more months then to attempt a clam. I wanted to get onto the whole LED craze in reef keeping but all the LED systems were WAY too expensive so I decided to get a cheaper alternative which was a Fluval LED Marine system. It's said to be 25000K and so far its doing an alright job at keeping my zooanthids, GSP and other soft corals alive.
