I've got diamond goby, sea hare, I'm also not scared to vac the sand or just give it a lil stir every one in a while if I think it needs it ;)

I only keep about a quarter to half inch of sand. My fighting conch and Nassarius snails keep it really clean. i have about a dozen of each and both types stick to the sand and dont move around the rocks like turbos who knock stuff down.

Jason what kind of issues are you having in your sand bed. people tend to have cyanobacteria on their sand and can't keep it off. it doesn't mean your sand is dirty, just means your tank has that type of bacteria. scrubbing the sand won't solve the problem if its that type of issue.

Ya my goby keeps my sand bed clean. But it also gets the water kinda cloudy due to kicking up all that sand. Gotta run the filter sock with the goby

Thanks for the answers everyone.
I have a algae out break right now and im using the vac every week when i do a water change.
I just posted this because i see all these tanks with really nice white sand but they have a bunch of LPS on the sand bed so they cant have a diamond goby because it would kill them right?
My diamond goby is making my tank look like a sand storm.
Will this calm down a little as he hits all the same spot again

You have a nutrient issue so really your problem is more keeping the water clean than keeping the sand bed clean. Get a top quality protein skimmer, you will really need one in this hobby if you want true long term success. A solid protein skimmer is the heart of your system. People gave good advice about the conches, but in my opinion I always regret getting sand sifting gobies because they kick up sand all day and make the tank look cloudy it is annoying.

algae needs three things to survive, light, phosphate and nitrates.

nitrates are directly tied to what's in your tank, fish poop and overfeeding are generally the main culprits for this, reduce feeding will help as will a skimmer as mentioned above. running a refugium is another way to absorb these nutrients. there is a cheato reactor build in the DIY section of the forums, really good for people with small spaces. other then that its general maintenance, water/sock changes.

consider getting a gfo reactor, two little fishes do a cheap one. this will help with your phosphate problems. ive also read that you can try turning off your lights for about 3 days to reduce the growth of algae. for 3 days your corals will be fine (so ive read) but im not too sure about it, sure someone will chime in .

if this was my tank, i would physically remove what i can from sand bed and rocks, use a new plastic spoon and take the top layer of where its really stained and do a massive water change. unfortunately water changes are gonna be the main way you export nutrients without the equipment (assuming you dont have them)

hope this helps you and good luck.

I would siphon the cyano out (the red sheety stuff), add a gfo reactor, run a skimmer, add a refugium with macro algae in it, and not keep your two little fishies magnetic feeder in the tank longer than it takes to feed your fish.
