I have a small snowflake eel and was wondering if i could put in a cleaner shrimp or two without them getting eaten. I know some fish wont eat them because of their cleaning ability but I wasn't sure. Anyone have experience with this?
I just got rid of a snowflake eel a couple month back because it went after my shrimps.
It did good for about a month and then it started causing harm. My vote is no.
Snowflake eels eat crustaceans... haha. Maybe a cleaner, but even thats pretty risky. If you want to try it, get large cleaners! That'll be your best bet.
Small eel, huge shrimp, might work, but eventually it will be food.
I had a small octopus, and a huge cleaner shrimp, and eventually my octopus made a snack out of him. But if you keep him well fed he should have a decent shot.
I have had a zebra stripped eel for 10 months. It doesn't eat anything but clams on the half shell. I have some shrimp and did have some cleaner shrimp with no problems. The cleaners jump the overflow and are now in the refugium. The zebra stripped eel is 18 inches long. Spends most of the time spread out along the back of the tank with his head sticking out of a cave.
