Recently I have setup a new tank, however, I am having trouble with achieving clear water. It seems like micro-bubbles just keep continuously coming out. I have checked the sump and cannot find where the bubbles are coming from, it doesnt seem they are being produced by the skimmer but maybe from the intake . Anyone have any ideas of how to stop this problem?

What he means....is to check your plumping (pipes/hoses) to see if there are any holes sucking in air which is causing the micro-bubbles to shoot through your return...

Check the returns. Sounds like you have a venturi effect going on.

Ive just looked through all the piping and I cant find any sign of leaking. However, when I was just about to give up and decided to clean my sponge in my sump, I noticed once I removed the sponge the bubbles in the tank tripled - quadrupled. I guess The micro-bubbles are in the sump and somehow even passing through the sponges and getting into the return. Have any of you experienced this? Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix this? I also turned off my skimmer and its not the skimmer producing the bubbles, but i noticed that they're being produced in my filter sock.

Well my whole system is about a month to a month and a half old. I have a remora skimmer but even if my skimmer is turned off the bubbles are still there. I do have a filter sock, and when i look into the filter sock tons of bubbles are being produced inside but when they come out of the sock they are then very very tiny bubbles that make there way into the return and into the tank. The bubbles then eventually start to clump together and settle on rocks.

I can see the bubbles coming out of the return. They are very very small but if you look close to the tank you can see they are bubbles the way they glow against the light.

Maybe the sponge filter on the return pump is not fine enough, what is the color of the sponge? if it is yellow or a light color, then it is probably the wrong one, It should be black!

It actually is the black 1. Its very fine aswell. I had 1 filter sponge but that wasnt cutting it. So i shoved another in and it cut down the bubbles a bit more. so just now i added another sponge in to see how it does. I was thinking there would be a better fix to this problem though.

Are the bubbles coming from the return or skimmer? Where ever they are coming from put something so they are caught and don't reach your tank hth.

Your return pump should be in a different chamber, filtered by another sponge before it reaches your return pump, if you don"t have another chamber then a filter that goes across the sump, either way, the filter from your return pump, should be the second filter sponge.
