I know people are going to disagree, but you really should not have multiple pairs of clowns in any tank no matter the size. It will cause stress.

I have a pair of Maroon's and Clarkii's in my 270 gallon, they battle over space. the Maroon's won the battle for the LTA, so the Clarkii's host in the xenia.

From an ichthyological viewpoint keeping two pairs of the same species can be deleterious to the overall health of the specimens. Amphiprion percula and all other clowns for that matter are what we call synchronous sequential hermaphrodites. They're all born male then the dominant one turns female. So within a pair the larger is always the female and the smaller the male. Once they turn female they cannot go back to male (pending further study and literature search). Since female gonads are so mug larger than the male counterpart it is almost (I have to say almost because like everything in science there is no certainty) impossible physiologically to regress. With all that nonsense in mind the too pairs (mainly females) will fight ad nauseum. All this will do is seriously hurt the overall health of both pairs. IF your pairs have not yet shown true sexual dimorphism (female much larger and rounder) you stan a fair chance of forming a harem there the two largest will become female and male respectively. So without any other information its hard for me to comment furtheras I sit here sipping my morning coffee and typing away on my droid.

Here's food for thought: most anemones in the wild host a polyandrous harem (group with one dominant female and male plus many lesser/undeveloped males) but these are all recruited from different year classes (age groups) so as to ease internal competition...very interesting reproductive strategy. I haven't reviewed my old ecology/mariculture textbooks so im positive im forgetting something. If you have any questions or want to talk shoot me a PM. No back to my coffee...cheers.

Apologies for the million typos in my reply. This forum does not interface too smoothly with the android browser...I can actually type in english when I have a full keyboard believe it or not. I hope you can get the idea of what I tried to communicate. Don't take my word, or anyone elses for that matter, as the choice you make. Be an active critical thinker, your livestock will thank you for it in the long run...
