hey all justa newb question. i recently thought my 12x12x8 tank cycled after about 3 weeks but now im not sure. i started tank with about 2 gallons old reef water and 3 new. 4 lbs of real reef rock and 5lbs tahitian moon sand. i saw the ammonia go up, then down as nitrite came up, then trites went down. then no amm or trites and i saw trates. i even saw a lone green/brown paly living on the rock, thought all was well. i added a chromis and all was wel for about 3 days, then he stopped eating and got cloudy eyes then died. after his death i noticed another diatom bloom? what gives? any help?? i tested again and am 0 trite 0 trate 10-15.

i agree that acclimation was a bit long, 15-25 mins should be sufficient. Although is was long i dont believe that is what did them in because those are very hardy fish. Try putting a bottle of this is your tank and i am will to bet that you will get positive results from doing so. good luck!:fish:

thanks everyone. please dont chastise me but after testing everything again and still getting am 0 trite 0 trate 5ish, i used your acclimation suggestions and put another chromis in.
i had an epiphany and hope that maybe you can reassure me i wont have a cursed tank cause of bad silicone. seeing as this is a home built tank, i went to lowes and bought some ge silicone 1 window and door stuff and built the tank. after wondering if this silicone could be hurting the fish i checked out the tube again and it is 100% pure silicone but after the silicone 1* <---theres an asterisk...huh? couldn't find what that means?? now im paranoid.
