Ok. So I get home from my walk and check on my 7 gallon pico (converted betta tank) and noticed that the crappy beamworks led light fixture had fallen into my tank. There was a cloud of yellow colored stuff around the fixture (that was still on and working). I immediately did a 100% water change and then another 50% with some cold water that was stored in my garage.

My blue damsel, that lived thru a lot, is now dead and my corals are pretty much closed up. My sexy shrimp seem to be alive but aren't moving much from the sudden shock of the cold water change. My rock anemone and maxi-mini are closed up and are not looking good. In fact the rock anemone has now detached from its rock and it looks like parts of the mini are falling off. I know that the cold water change wasn't smart to do at all but the water in my tank smelled a bit like battery acid. So should i just give up hope and write everything off or hope for the best?

Any ideas? Or prayers?

Get carbon in there as soon as you can. If there's already some in there, switch it out. Keep doing water changes but not 100%. Chemicals have definitely escaped from the electronics in the light. Also I wouldn't use the light even if it still works as it can be a fire hazard.

Thanks. Did the carbon and going to do another water change this afternoon. About 20%. some of the coral is opening up but they still look like crap.

I think the 100% water change might have done more damage then the light falling in. I don't think anyone recommends doing 100% water change. That alone will shock ur corals and tank inhabitants

wow that sucks, sorry to hear. i didnt know damsels could die lol. I would hold off on the 20% water change as you have already completed a 150% water change yesterday. i would give it a couple of days and then do 20%. you need to let the tank establish itself again. tank crashed, maybe by your water changes so I would let things be for now and start testing daily to see what direction you need to go.
