Yep something seems missing. I would put your drain where you skimmer is and your skimmer where your drain is. So drain, to socks (if you have or want them), then skimmer, then fuge, then return.

Ya gunna have to add baffles to the return section. Make sure u tell john to add like 4 baffles. U don't want bubbles getting into ur return area. Same goes with fuge section. Some guys think u can just have the fuge or skimmer section overflow into the rerun section. But there's no guarantee it won't create some bubbles

Drill the return section install a valve like Andy did for water changes. Hook a hose up, turn on the pump, fill your container and vice versa to fill new saltwater.

No lets get this figured out with dimensions before he gets a hold of it... not the best plan of attack if you want it done right and the way you want it.

Bean, i have my sump somewhat laid out like you mentioned and i can only service my tank on 2 sides. Right now i have to tilt my skimme cup alittle to get it between the 3 return lines. Thats the reason i want to have my skimmer in front of the return lines so to speak.

Andy who? Does he have pics of his sump showing the water change idea? That sounds like a great idea but i cant picture it in my head right now.

Nick, as far as baffles go, i have always used the under-over-under with 1" spacing for baffles and i have never had issues with bubbles.

mark.a.smith405 let me see if I can find his build. It was simple yet effective for water changes from the looks of it.

You bring up a good point Ed..I wonder if the under-over-under baffle method is better than the over-under-over method or vice-versa? Asking because my sump layout is a bit different than yours with the last baffles being over-under-over...hmmm

I like under, over, under because when it's over under, over, there's a small section that catches debris that is hard to clean.

My drain is at the bottom of my tank. But here is a pic of my sump!

Left chamber is split. Back drains into filter socks, and then goes to skimmer chamber. Than middle fuge / fish jail section tht has a third drain adding water. Last is rubble / skeleton filters and return pump. Mine was made by John and it over under over. There are bubbles formed if the return section does not have enough water in it.

are you building this next one or having john build it?
im going to have john build it for me. This is pretty much the layout that i want i just need to find any design errors in my set up .
One thing that i just thought of was that in the right side of my skimmer/drain section area i will have to have the wall/partition height enough so it doesnt drain into the fuge area. Maybe have the left side of the skimmer/drain area about 2" lower. thoughts?
