I noticed my 1.5 inch crocea clam wasn't doing so well last night two days after a water change. I had time to take some measurements of my water and it looks kind of bad water wise... is that the main reason my clam isn't doing well though? I'm starting to raise the Ca slowly.

Salinity: 1.026
MG: 1410
Alk: 10.5
Ca: 320

I have been trying to feed it phyco pure and reef chili every other day. the foot is barely still attached to the rock it's on. I didn't want to further stress it out by trying to pry it off to look underneath. i was pretty sure there were no predators though when i first put it in and brushed it with a toothbrush. it had been doing ok for 3 weeks under my care. i have the jbj LED professional (89 watt) lights and it's pretty high up on the rocks. thoughts?

Looks bad. I've had a bunch of similar size clams die the same way a few months back. I keep trying but haven't had luck. My parameters are consistently okay. It's either predators, lighting, or stress . Yours does not look like it will recover. I would just leave it there a day or two more till you are sure it's dead, once it smells throw it out.

so do you guys think it's the calcium that's the cause? i've heard that clams like this will die when small. i just wanted to know for the future.

I'm not sure a cause is known. Iv had them shrink and die in the most perfect water conditions. Iv never been able to figure it out.

I have only had clams die when they were small. I have never had a medium or large clam die. always those 2" or smaller that die on me so for that reason I dont buy small clams anymore.

Looks like its dying, if your parameters good then check the feet, probably fire worms or other pest.

I've had a few clams and only 1 didn't make it. I've always avoided stuff smaller than 2", from what I've read they're very dependent on food in the water column. Also, clams don't usually like pristine water conditions so if you have no nitrates or phosphates there's a good chance it's slowly starving even with your attempted feeding routine.

From the looks of the shell there was recent growth, did you happen to notice if any of that was while it was with you? By the looks of it now, it's unlikely to make it but I wouldn't give up on it until it smells like others said or if you see any of your CUC picking at it.
