Hey guys,
This was my first post on 12/24/07
i have a pair of crosshatches, but last couple of days the male has been in hiding. He won't come out to eat or anything. What do you suppose i do to lure him out. I put food in but nothing. Let me know what i should do.

Just right now 12/29/07

I think he's done for guys. He still doesn't come out and I've been hand feeding him the last couple of days and he's been eating, but just right now he came out from triggering and was swimming in circles like "barrel rolls" Like when you tell a dog to roll over. I thought he would get over whatever he is going through but do you think he's got some stomach virus or something? It looks like he doesn't have his balance or center of gravity anymore? Let me know what i should do.

I thought i might ask people in this forum and hopefully you guys have any good suggestions.

Dude ! I am sick about that. I hope he pulls through. I am sorry I cant offer any advice, just well wishes. My female has hid more than swim around since day one.
I have a 13 year old purple tang that has been on the "brink of death" more than once and has always pulled through.

Good luck dude. I finally lost my female after she went hiding for a couple of weeks. Don't know what got her at the end, parasites or hunger =(

thanks well i hand feed the male since he won't come out, but don't know if that's going to be enough. doing a water change today to lower bio-load if it is too much. But not sure if he is sick or what not. And if he is sick don't know what sickness. So no clue for quarantine. =(

I guess it's at least a good sign that he's still eating. Mine just hid in a cave and wouldn't come out. I had quite a few other fish die from ich but not sure if the cross died from that or something else. Just keep feeding him until he decides to come out. Doing some WC's may help with the water quality and lessen the stress.

Hey yalls, here the update:

Looks like he's got at most 3 days left in him. He stopped eating and now is doing aerobatic rolls now like back flips plus the barrel rolls simultaneous. Does anyone know where to bring him like a taxidermy to like stuff him? He's such a beautiful fish i would to put him on my wall. Does that sound weird or psycho? Does anyone else have anything stuffed? Let me know.

If or when the male dies. I'm thinking about selling my female for $300 firm to a fellow reefer with a tank with a 300+ gallon tank. Let me know if anyone interested or if i should just start up a FS thread.

Yeah, you need 300+. My 240 is not adequate for these fish.
Busta, your crosshatches ever, "scratch their skin" and leave scars on their skin from ramming themselves into the live rock when they sleep?

no they are usually pretty good at triggering up at night. Especially when i made a lot of caves for them to trigger up. When they scratch themselves it was intentionally they would go up towards the rocks or my overflow box and scratch themselves. They love it when i scratch them too. That's what i would miss the most. They are kind of like my pet dog.

Busta,

Believe it or not we had a male that did the same thing for two months stright and never ate the entire time. Two weeks ago we started forcing it to eat (holding it with our hand and pushing food in its mouth). It’s now eating on its own and gaining a lot of weight. It’s also swinging around the tank instead of just hiding in the rocks all day long. We’ve gotten 5 male crosshatch in the last six weeks and all of them have taken much longer to start eating then the females.

By the way, one of the females bit one of my employee and myself this week and drew blood on both occasions!!! Watch them when your hands are in the tank! !! :D
