Alright guys I have a 34 gallon that I'm shutting down because we need the space in the living room. I'm going to setup a 20 gallon nano in another room becuase that's what space allows for. I will be using some rock and sand from the 34 into the 20.

My question is should I wait for the expected mini cycle in the 20 to be over before transferring my corals, and clean up crew (that's all I have in the tank currently)?

Wouldn't the 34 gallon, which I will leave running until the 20 gallon is fully ready, go into a mini cycle also?

If both go into mini cycle then ill just throw everything in the 20 gallon.

When I did a transfer from a 29 to a 70, I tested everyday and never went through a cycle. But to be safe I would prepare for the unexpected. Test vigorously if possible and have a water change ready if needed.

Yea that's what I'm hoping for is no cycle. Ill be testing but if both go into mini cycle then ill just shut down the larger tank and deal with water changes on the new tank.
