So cyano is kicking my butt. I believe it's the Biopellets since I just introduced them and they need a couple of weeks to be effective that not my concern it's what type of CUC should I get for the mean time? I was thinking bunch of hermit crabs and a pair of emerald crabs since if the algae is gone because of the biopellets then I can't still feed the crabs with foods. But the snails will be tricky. Any recommendations for CUC package? I am siphoning the sand but its back overnight. I don't mind the cyno for all I care it can run its course but my house guests won't like the idea. Thanks in advance for the help

I've had a similar situation lately. I tackled the root of the problem. Phosphate. I added a BRS reactor and am running Rowaphos. Expensive stuff, but it definitely helps. I also have done 2 separate treatments of 3 days light off. That REALLY helped. Just make sure to vacuum out any and all detritus left from the dead and or dying Cyano.
I have been told by a couple of very helpful guys (Kyle @ Coral Gazers and Brian @ I Got Corals) that you need to be a little careful when using Rowaphos. It can actually strip the beneficial nutrients so low that you could end up with RTN on SPS.

What kind of skimmer do you have? How often do you do water changes and at what percent of your volume? Do you run GFO? Do you siphon out the cyano when you do a w/c? How much do you feed?
Like everything else in this hobby, there are no quick fixes. Be diligent with your water changes and it'll go away on it's own?

honestly, it doesn't look that bad in the pictures. Just on the sand mostly?

I have a SCA-302 on a 75g system 50g dt and 25g sump.
I do 20% water change ever sunday religiously.
No GFO
Yes I siphon cyno with every water change but only the last two water changes since that's when the problem started.
I feed frozen brine shrimp once a day and spirulina flakes at night and a seaweed clip for grazing all small portions.
No quick fixes even with a good CUC for a temporary fix while everything clears up?

Do you mix your own water? I ask because sometimes the w/c might be the source of the PO4. If you make your own sw, then you're your own quality control.
You may want to consider GFO. That'll definitely help with the PO4.
If the PO4 is leaching from rocks or overfeeding or from the frozen food, then no CUC will help.

I'm not sure there is a CUC for cyanobacteria.

I battled the red stuff, then dinos popped up, beat those and now I'm battling green slime. New tanks can be a PITA!

What has helped me is:
increase flow in display
Manual removal with increased water changes < made a big difference
Remove detritus from sump and overflow
Running my skimmer wet
Decreased photo period
feeding smaller amounts
Seems old t5 bulbs help feed the stuff also

I've used chemi clean and it works, but if you don't find the problem it will come back.

Are your Nitrates high?

When I introduced Biopellets i supplemented with Microbacter MB7 from Brightwell. Biopellets is a food source for bacteria and right now there's probably excess food for cyano to thrive off of and not enough of beneficial bacteria. Dosing MB7 helped equalize that by adding more beneficial bacteria and the cyano started to die off.

I do make my own waster everything is zero unless my salt mix is introducing phosphates. I will add a phos and reactor for gfo today I'll start slow. I tested my nitrates-4ppm phosphate .25ppm.

I do all that stuff except run LED I have some chemi pure but I'll keep that for the nano. I'll just keep manually removing it.

I'll get some in a bit when I get to my LFS.

From what I can see in your picture, looks like your battling more then just cyano. Looks like you got the beginning stage of Dino.

I bet your .25 of PO4 is actually higher because the cyano is using it up as well. But at least we know it's probably the PO4. GFO here you come.

FWIW, I run BP and don't have to use GFO.
