Hey guys,
After trying different things in my main 180g, I decided I would have better control of coral growth/health in a smaller tank. I considered a 24 / 24 / 20 cube but ended up with a 30 / 30 / 20. I really like the added depth and got to see it in action at Gene's house. I will be posting progression pics as things develop
The set up is as follows:
30/30/20 Leemar Starfire on a Leemar stand a42: - if i was to do this again, i would make my own stand because their stand has a very small door--hard to work inside)
Lights: 1x 250w Radium on a m80 hamilton ballast / Luminarc and Kessil 350w for supplementation - had 2 radions before but decided to try MH
Plumbing: semi herbie center overflow w/ filter sock
Return: Eheim 1260
Flow: 2x Tunze 6105 wideflow grill
Skimmer: SWC 160 Cone
ATO: autotopoff.com unit w 10g container
Phosphate control: MR1 reactor
Dosing: not dosing yet as waterchanges are keeping up but I have a Kalk reactor as well as a doser ready to go. (considering a small Ca reactor instead of doser)
Controller: DA RK lite
Livestock: pair of clowns / purple tang / cleaner shrimp
I went with a barebottom due to somewhat heavy flow and the fact that I cannot keep sand in place in my 180.
The tank came with 1 hole drilled in the overflow and after looking at different options, we ended up drilling another hole inside the back wall in the overflow to set up a semi herbie - full siphon drain. After it was tuned in, the tank became very quiet (a relief compared to my other tank which has a durso...)
The corals in the tank are primarily sps with a few LPS tossed in for recouperation. There are also 2 clams and a baby RBTA (dime size) . So far things have been stable and running ok. My basic maintenance here is cleaning the glass once a week and changing 15% of the water weekly. I picked this up from Jason who's tank is partially the inspiration for my set up.
Here are the pics:
1. stand painted / red inside (not your usual set up but i liked the boldness)
2. Back of the tank BEFORE drilling the herbie-drilled it after a test run with the gurgling being too loud
3. Overflow installed with the gatevalve on the 1inch herbie full siphon--- emergency pipe 1.5inches in case of blockage
4. MH hanging over the tank, decent coverage, not enough par on the edges
5. inside the stand:
and now for some of the current shots:

BA Scolly: (thank you Lee!)
Space Invader pectina started to develop a mouth, sorry for the poor pic its angled (ty Jason):
Recuperating Lobos
One of my favorites: not sure the name but really fuzzy
Pink lemonade (i believe)
Newer Icefire encinata (ty Johnny)
Not sure of the name - ty Lee
original Icefire encinata -
Unidentified milli and what i think is a lemonade
Purple Tenuis
Unidentified Milli - coming back from bleaching
Clam and anem
Thanks for looki
