Hi, I am being offered a carpet anemone with a mated pair of maroon clowns for a small rehoming fee. I read that carpets are disasters just waiting to happen because they will sting and kill anything that they touch. Need your advice if I should get it or not. I have a 75 gal with a yellow tang, a pair of false percula (that I dont mind rellocating to a different tank) and a bunch of soft corals (polyps, xenia, mushrooms, etc) If this thing starts killing corals Im probably gonna kill myself. Thanks.

IMHO I would stay away from it.

First off, maroons get pretty territorial and soon enough you'd wish you never got them in your tank. And second, carpets take up a lot of space as they grow in size and may also eat your fish. I guess it really depends on what you keep in your tank as far as corals.

On the other hand, I plan to get a nice carpet someday with the right pair of clowns.

My clown fish would pick a fight with my fish, and when my other fish would get mad and chase the clown the green carpet anemone would sting it, then in about an hour or two it would die. Then the clown would go and get the dead fish and bring it to the anemone to eat, and I fed it silver sides.
This happened four times, and yes, one was a yellow tang, a clown tang a stingray.
SO IF YOU ASK ME, I SAY NO, NO, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depending how big the clowns and carpet are, it may be nice to have for a few yrs until they outgrow your tank. I do hate maroons though, agressive little bastards. Maybe I'll get a nice blue or red carpet one of these days...

I'd say if you really wanted the carpet, to do a 75g+ species-only tank with just the nem and the clowns. And some feeder damsels once in a while. A carpet is just too huge to house with corals to be 100% safe.

I have a red carpet. Plopped its foot down and hasent moved since. It has not caught any fish at all. I also have a green carpet that got huge ( almost 2 feet across) , and is now in its own tank.
I love carpets and do not regret for a minute getting them.
Carpets are short lived in aquariums for the most part, given they can live like 100 years in the wild. I read that 90% of carpets do not live a year in the home aquarium
based on your post a carpet is a very poor choice for your aquarium, I would pass. JMHO
