just wondering...

if I plumb in a 10 gallon nano display/stand to my 180 reef, is it still a nano or is it cheating?

if I plumb a standpipe the same exact way I've been doing for ten years, but someone else did it more recently and now people call it by their name, am I wrong for not asserting it's a "joe somebody" drain?

Just like the nano- thing, it all depends who you ask, lol. I've always run 30~40 gallon tanks as my normal, so to me, a nano is a 2-5 gallon tank. To others, it's anything under 50 gallons.

In your case- you can call it a nano tank but assert it's not a nano system? lol

OK, so consensus is its cheating.

But it solves sooo many problems inherent to nanos...

I guess the same as plumbing an 8oz cup in line to a large "filtration system", clearly cheating.

I think people like the nano tag to show off their dealing with the problems of a nano- so if you just basically circumvent those problems, not the same badge of honor? I dunno, i just call it a reef tank :D

A nano is 8-60 gallons a Pico is anything under that. U would have a nano tank but not a nano system I have a 10g hooked to a 30g sump before I had a 3 g hooked to a 300 g system ppl loved it

a 60 gallon is a nano?? what? that's bonkers...

so if a 60 is a nano- then what's the range for a 'small' tank? bigger than 60 but less than 120? 120-240 is a medium tank, and above a 240 is a big tank? that's uhm...ahem...weird. :llama:

I always thought nanos were 30 gallons or less. And I thought picks were just the name of that tank model. "Picotope"

i would agree that a nano should be < 30gallons.

just to clear things up, both "nano" and "pico" are used in the metric system. nano is a factor of 10 -9 and pico is a factor of 10 -12. nano was only coined in the aquarium world because it became synonymous with being small/tiny. so it was only right that the proper term, in context, was used for the next size down (pico).
