Hey guys, got some zoas yesterday and as soon as i got home they all opened really quickly. I left for 30 minutes and when i came back, my peppermint shrimp was all over my Seduction Paly. It was completely closed but since it was late at night i thought it'd just open up the next day. Well, it's still closed up and i'm starting to worry, did my peppermint shrimp kill it? :a22:

No longer think it could have been anything else. just watched him murder a hermit crab, he needs to go. Anyone want some dinner for their mantis or lionfish? :mad2:

I had a peppermint shrimp in my nano. I purchased some really nice rock anemones from Florida. They were slowly declining over the course of a week or so and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I had four, one day one was melting soup, the next another. So I stayed up late one night and what did I notice but the peppermint shrimp going to town on the last one. That $5 dollar shrimp most likely cost me $300.

I've also had them eat the rest of zoas that are stressed, closed or in decline for whatever reason. When they could very well bounce back. The shrimp smell blood!

So yeah long story short they are great for aiptasia, but just don't be upset or surprised. when they pick or eat certain corals or other anemones. Live and learn but they should be added with caution. Not only that but they are terribly hard to catch especially in a big tank. Almost impossible really.

maybe i'll get lucky and the rest of the hermit crabs will turn the tables... If not, i'm setting a trap tonight, if that doesn't work then i'm buying a lionfish. The shrimp will pay for what he has done.

Yeah I'm not a fan of peppermint shrimp anymore. I had one take out a gold wall hammer in minutes. I put it in, it was irritated and release a little slim coat then the peppermint was on it pulling tentacles out like mad. Took out over 50% then it was bone the next day.
