Ok, this might be a bit of a troll. I just want to get my point of view out, and see who agree with me. I visit LFS about every other week, and u all know what most of these cheap shops are like. Their tank usually are small 40-60 Gallon, then they have these tiny about 5 Gallon or some breeder long with divider tank. So I'm guess lately isn't the tang season, so these couple stores have shipments of baby tangs. Since one of the store is brightly led up, I saw how cool they are. Then, it hit me. Aren't these tang are suppose to be in 120G +??? I mean, the size of these divider is like 2-3 gallon at most. The price for small Tang is 24.99 ( Damaged Tang) - 32.99 (so so Tang), Then Med is 34.99 - 45.99. I mean come on, if they mark up the fish price that high, least let them in the 40-60 gallon roaming amount the corals. I feel so **** bad, that I saw the small one (damage) is laying side ways by the corner, and 3 more roaming above. Prices for these fish is a bit high, so I know not a lot of people going to buy them. Beside, they been in that tank for 2 week now a least, if not 3. I thought well, my 20g fuge area is bigger than the **** divided area. Now, dont flame me. I'm going to put them into the new 40g breeder when it is cycle. Also, I'm not going to keep them there forever, just till I get the "big tank." Yep, I got the damage one laying bottom at the tank.

Has any of u rescue damage fish from LFS??

PS: I also saw a mantis shrimp next to the tang tank..........well, aleast its shedding skin. Posting vid on another forums.

i agree with you, however keep in mind that LFS are also in a business to make money, so they will store as many fish as they can in the smallest place possible. Your best way to 'protest', so to speak, is to not purchase at the stores whos methods you question.

Theres an LFS by my house that i used to frequent when i got into saltwater tanks; the owner was really nice and gave me discounts and things of the sort. However as I learned more, i saw how he treated his livestock; basically, they were all agressive to each other, skinny, and ALL of his tangs had HLLE. Now? I don't go there. Unfortunately, like any hobby, there will be people cutting corners to maximize profit.

Wholesalers packs their tangs alot more. They pack 50+ yellow tangs in 100g tank.
LFS cant let fish roam their coral tanks because it will be time consuming to catch. Its all business. Any LFS will go out of business if they kept one tang per 50+ gallons. Just look at a store that sells cats and dogs. They keep them in a small kennel.

It sucks but its true that it would be tough for all fish to be kept in an ideal environment. Keep in mind that even in the appropriate environment fish are going to die due to shipping stress, disease, etc. After all its the goal of the LFS to move the fish and sell them as fast as possible. Unfortunately that doesn't happen. Hopefully the tang you put in the fuge won't spread disease in the rest of your tank.

Thanks. I set that fudge running into a 10 Gallon tank with bunch of rocks at the moment, so I dont want the tang be in there and lost. well, only 2 more weeks to go for the 40g to be ready for some cuc.

My Tank Build
#6
How big is this tang u bought? I truly don't think 40 gallons is right. Tangs can grow very quick. The fish will out grow a 40 breader in a year or less. When I first set up my 180 my tangs seem to b fine in it. 10 months later my sohal hasput at least an inch on him. He looks to big for the tank now and is getting more aggressive by the day. The sohal and the purple are constantly chasing each other.

sounds like rainbow. I won't buy anything from them because of how they keep their fish.

pretty much what everyone has already said about LFS being a bizniz. I do have another question. its my understanding the fish will need the larger tanks once they get bigger but would it be ok to keep them in a smaller than ideal tank until they grow out? Lets say an emperor angel in a 100g?

people don't EVER upgrade their tanks because they bought a fish that will outgrow it. They either keep the fish despite cramped conditions, or rarely try to sell/give away to someone else or a LFS.

DON'T ADD FISH NOT APPROPRIATE FOR YOUR SYSTEM!
