Anyone know if dry ice will cause any problems with water chemicals if its just in the sump area. (Not in water) does it give off any bad fumes? I know we can drink stuff with dry ice directly in it with no harm to the body. What about dry ice directly in salt water? I'm sure its a big no. Just had to ask. I'm going to try a bucket of dry ice in the sump area to helpo cool the air. Hopefully the tank temp will drop.

Dry ice will drop the pH in the tank to negative numbers. It's co2 frozen. All that Carbon dioxide air will not be good.

I see. Makes sense. How bad is low ph? Maybe ill try it after I hook the ph probe up to monitor. Doesn't kalk raise ph? Maybe I can slow drip that on the doser? Sounds like a possible dissaster
Well lets say about a hundred co2 bubbles drops the pH in my cal reactor to 6.5. I think a block of dry ice would nuke a tank in minutes. He but what do I know I'm just a dumba** truck driver that delivers carbonated soft drinks!

Dude, I used one gallon water bottle in the freezer, and drop it in when need. It will cool down your tank. Dry Ice's fume can knock you out/ send you to emergency room, if you are not careful especially in closed area.

Oh Derk PLEEEEEAAAAAASSSSE do this to your tank and make a video of it for YouTube! You will definitely be the next viral video. I promise you will be the talk of all reef forums...lol.

Seriously don't do this. You will drop your temp too low, drop your pH and probably crack your tanks panels.

it gives off co2... feel free to watch your ph plummet and your corals melt... you could have one 150g calcium reactor

Ok. On to the next idea. Sounds like the worst idea ever. Lol. And yes it is dangerous to have dry ice in a small area. 2 weeks ago my coworkers cousin commit suicide via dry ice. Popped a hand full of xanax to knock her out. Put on her favorite music. Locked herself in a car with dry ice. Left in peace.

If you really have temp problems you need to get a chiller. Let's pretend dry ice is safe (it is not) you still need a lot of ice to cool a 50 gallon tank by 5-10 degrees lower. And after dropping that temp it will just climb back up in probably an hour

Saltwater will kill you too, heck so will water. Just messin with ya. Frozen jugs of water, just make sure they fit in your sump, I would say most people can fit one liter bottles pretty easy, you just need to rotate bottles to get the benefit. I used to do this for my dogs till they decided the crunchy cold bottle was more fun to them.

Could saltwater ice cubes be made?

Also for dents only works on large dents with no "creases" in the dent. Heat area with blow dryer then spray co2 (upsidedown duster can) or place dry ice on the dent. The rapid heat exchange should pop out the dent. Plenty of youtube video examples.

My brother has a chiller for me but I don't want to run it due to the crazy heat it puts out. I thought about running the tubing all the way out to my yard then back. But I don't know if the chiller will be strong enought to pump it back in. Then ill also need 50ft of tubing.

I throw in frozen ice blocks and let it melt. You guys only use jugs or bottles then take it back out once melted?
