You did get screwed. And sell can't say that it was you and poor transport. Look at his post in the first picture you can see the split of the seem. Scandalous. Probably his tank and he knowingly punked you. He said selling for a friend so he had an excuse I'm assuming.
I just realized that way he could get around the "no third party sales" rule if not posted in the marketplace. I was told "no leaks, no nothin" and love how the shrink wrap was placed at the corners from when I bought vs the original photos. I wouldn't and don't know anyone who would spend half of their day driving and drop over half a 1K on a tank that was faulty; especially, not knowing much about acrylic if it would even be fixable.

This summer I was given a 90g tank full setup stand, hood, sump, pump, halides, heater; spent days repainting the stand and hood only to find that when I leak tested the tank the front glass panel shifted showing a stretched air gap in silicone. Concerned about using it as a reef or selling it to an unknowing person to get the money and time back that I spent on it; I used it as a reptile enclosure.

This clearly shows the defect that I did not hide.
Sorry but saying a tank is brand new, and not mentioning that defect when posting it for sale, is very deceptive.

Had you or the original owner attempted to get that repaired? Was that not discussed in person? Yes buying used its at your own risk, but you can't really claim that pic clearly shows a defect... and if it did... why not mention it in the post? I'm not sure I would have noticed that and many of us are not pros as far as the condition of the acrylic, bad seams, etc.

+1 on this.

Also exray saying that the first picture clearly shows the defect means he did know about it before this thread. And putting the shrink wrap on just makes it super shady even more

$500 for that tank. get it fixed lesson learned. after getting fixed still should be under 1k. always inspect no matter how good the car saleman is.

It may show the defect but most people wouldn't recognize that as a defect. I had an acrylic tank for 8 years and by looking at that picture I wouldn't know that was bad. It could be lighting or just sloppy glue. I would assume as a new un used tank(as you stated) that it was solid condition and no defects.

If you sell something and know there is a defect or problem it should be stated clearly in text so unknowing buyers will be aware. and then hiding the defect with shrink wrap when the buyer comes to check it out...

I don't know anything about acrylic and I wouldn't have noticed it in the pics either (I assumed it was a reflection). It almost sounds like you're saying since the buyer didn't notice it in the photo it's okay that it was wrapped up at sale time and not disclosed. That's not what you're saying though, right? Because that would be a dick move.

I agree with everybody else, you were involved in the sale and you can't just throw your hands up and absolve yourself of any responsibility. You haven't taken ANY responsibility for what happened but you do have some. Especially now that you're saying the photos you posted DO show the problem.

This post clearly shows you deceived the buyer by not disclosing the issue with the tank to begin with and that your hid it when they came to look at the tank. I would have never thought to look under the wrapping and I don't know enough about acrylic to tell from the photo. But after seeing the damage up close in a photo and looking at that photo I can see the issue. By you even arguing this over and over your only making yourself look worse. Accept that you made a mistake, apologize and try to remedy the issue, or continue to be a shady seller.

I really don't know why its so hard for you to figure this out. If I sold a guy a used tank that leaked and I did not know it I would cover the cost to fix it or give him money back. Its that simple!

Okay, you showed the defect but, failed to mention it to the buyer. You are also quick to say this was your "friends" tank as well. Why distance yourself from the sale? It sounds like an admission of guilt to me...

Either way, how about you try and help the person out who bought the tank? Talk to your friend about spliting costs to repair it or, in someway help the poor dude who bought the tank. I feel its poor etiquette to just say you showed a picture of the defect without at least letting him know about it. Shady.

Got the tank for $650 plus $200 repair so all in all I will have $850 in this tank, considering it is 3/4" thick it's still a decent price for a "New" tank. Lesson learned for sure though thoroughly inspect every seam/joint when buying a used tank. I personally will most likely buy new from now on. I just don't want this to happen to another person, what if the damage wasn't so clearly visible and someone fills a bad 200g tank flooding their apartment and their neighbors apartment; that would be terrible.

850$ is a good price. overall. thats the problem with buying used. but sometime used is not a bad deal depending who you get it from. Tangwich usually sells his 3 day old stuff for like 5 bucks to get kids in his house. babyjess210 also sell use stuff in great condition. just ask question inspect. should be good.

The tank ended up costing more then his last asking price. That sucks, sorry you got fooled. And by the way, I've bought 4 acrylic tanks from BluRocket3 that have been wrapped in shrink wrap, and have never inspected any of them for damage. Ya, I'm taking the risk by not checking them, but Kyles an honest dude and I know if I ever had trouble, he would make it right.
