FYI, you want a gate valve, not a ball valve.

while you can technically control volume of flow with a ball valve, the range of adjustment will be very limited, and difficult to tune.

I find gate valves are difficult to tune lol and ball valves are easy to do maintenance and or repair if needed funny its the opposite of what you feel lol

So I ended up not putting in a refugium and just used a sump. If you guys want pics tommorow I'll post it but I'm thinking of just using 2 hamg on refugiums on the sides and leave space for a chiller when winter ends and possibly a double sump (prolly not though).

Idk if anyone is following through with this thread but.. I have a quarantine/macro/pod 10G(basically a refugium but not connected to a main tank) and wondering what the best way to scoop out pods to my main tank in the future? I was thinking of fine mesh but my LFS advised on just using a siphon feeder.

Opinions appreciated

I had a few restrictions on size of sump and having a refugium as well. I ended up using a HOB fuge from CPR. Seems to work fine. I wasn't intending to use the return coming out of the overflow box anyways, so it served a good purpose here.

My sump. I just have it hanging on the back fed from the overflow. Works great, except for the splash from the return. If I would I would mount the return from the Fuge with some sort of pipe or plastic for the water to fall directly onto.
