Is this an upgrade to your auto phyto dosing?
Yea phyto bottom out my no3 levels. In 2 weeks of phyto dosing I started getting red slime from the imbalance. I was hoping dosing phyto at night was going to feed corals. But it ended up feeding off nutrients. So last weekend I turned the phyto dose into fish/coral food dose to bring up po4

that sucks man, the metals search seriously sucks and with all of the mess about salts these days you just never know
Right. I even ripped my cal reactor down 2 weeks ago. Replaced all the media and cleaned the motor. Nothing.

Took the skimmer pump out and cleaned and checked. Did the return and all the gyres last month. Those are the only pumps I have in tank. Checked to mag cleaners nothing. The only thing it might be is the gate valve for overflow. But I took it apart and checked if the bolt in it was stainless steel and it was a magnet would not stick to it. And even then the bolt wasn’t even touching water there was a O ring to create a water seal. So I couldn’t see how the bolt would rust. Also I’ve been having metal issues before I set up the new tank. I truly do think it’s the 2 cases of RC I bought in July.

That sucks, I'm in the same boat and haven't found an answer yet either. My next ICP sent off might just be on a fresh mix of saltwater to rule that out.

Good luck, hope you find it.

Do you have any spa flex in your plumbing? I'm wondering if that's contributing to my TIn

Flex pvc? I do but I was having metal issues with the 150g and all that plumbing was hard pvc. I think it the salt. Every time I’ve made water the water has a orange tin to the water. I seen Jose say that there’s been clay issues in some salts. So I’m thinking it’s a clay and metal issue. It seems in the last 6 months I’ve seen so many people talk about sudden issues in corals health and for no reason.

Gotcha, that makes sense. I'm using NeoMarine so I don't think thats my case, I believe that's still made in house by them.

Good luck dude, it's all out frustration over here. Digging in my CARX now

Yeah, that really sucks! Eric, pick up some Loudwolf sodium nitrate and tridodium phosphate and make some DIY NO3 & PO4. In the meantime, Brightwell sells NeoPhos which you may find at your LFS? I used some on my temp tank when I moved everything over so it matched my display. I didn’t carry the sand over, just a couple handfuls, so I dosed both N&P until things stabilized. Then feedings took over.

I did go that route a while back on the 150 but thought why not feed the fish a whole lot more. If I’m dropping money on phosphates and nitrates I’ll just buy more fish food. Nothing is going to waist and my wife loves fat ass fish. She’s says they need to be so fat they can’t swim and have double chins. We’re talkin more chins then a Chinese phone book here.

The problem is that if I run activated carbon I strip the water to clean. The no3 is hovering at .5 and po4 is at 0.02ppm. Im already feeding 7 times a day and can’t get the numbers up. The skimmer has been off for 3 months and the fuge only runs 3 hours a night. Even feeding this much I can go a week and a half before I get algae on the glass. By using activated carbon I’ll strip the water even cleaner. I’m already loosing sps do to lack of nutrients. I don’t want to make it worse.

Even the ICP shows that the po4 levels are below recommend levels.

Eheim is set and runs 4 times a day.
Feeding 30ml of coral/fish food 3 times a day.

It auto feeds off the dōs

All this feeding and the tank is super clean
Dude that’s mini refrigerator??? That feeds food for u? That’s crazy

Yea. It’s a mini frig off Amazon like $30. My wife got one for my daughters room (yea another reason my daughter doesn’t need to come out her room). Well I was like that’s bad ass. So I found one in the used, open, return section for $20 and bought it. I was like if it’s broken I’ll return it. Not broken works fine. So I drilled two 1/4” holes in the back. One for the power of the magnet stirrer and the other for 1/4” line that goes to dōs. I’m running the same profiles as the phyto dosing but just doing refrigerated foods and different times. I also have the stirrer turn on 4 min before the food doses. So it has enough time to blend.

Yea I know I’m some type of mad man doing stupid ridiculous crap.

When I googled it that said it’s a blend of activated carbon with bla bla bla resin. (No lie I tuned out when I saw activated carbon lol) I’ll look into it tho. I did notice it’s 10 bucks cheaper then the seachem stuff

So tank want looking pretty sad. But I found that my return pump was bad last week. The vectra M1 had some swelling on the inside of the motor where the impeller inserts (first of all “inserts”). I swapped out the vectra for a spare pump I had and with in a few days I started to see some improvements in PE. Colors seem to be bouncing back.

These two pics a took at the same time.
