Experience with U-tube siphon overflows?

I have an external siphon overflow that came with the nano I am currently using. The guy i got it from said he never had issues, but I'm worried of failure if I use it. I've only ever used drilled tanks so I don't have any experience with a siphon overflow. Can anyone elaborate on their experience? That would help me out. Thanks!

I never has a problem other then when doing water changes that might drop the water level too far and breaks the siphon.

+1 on the aqualifter. Keep an airline tube in the UTube to quickly restore the siphon.
