Had this for a couple years and it's been growing OK but curious if anybody can help me ID the subtype of "Favia" it is. Not looking for a tradename or tradename lookalike, more like what it actually might be - Coelastrea, Dipsastrea, etc? It was 1.5 polyps when I got it, no-name freebie from AquaSD maybe 2 years ago so it's probably a pretty common one in the hobby. Any guesses (and pointers about what characteristics you're looking at)?

Features I notice - seems plocoid (hard to tell on original polyps), polyps relatively short/shallow, and septa between adjacent polyps look like they might be aligned?

Not super aggressive in terms of sweepers (it's like 1" from a Stylo), and it's been slowly spreading in this flat puddle style, more encrusting than massive I'd say.

Favia (now dipsatraea) truncatus possibly? Yours is a little more fleshy, but the oral opening and septa looks pretty damn close.

I could buy that. Septa are there. It's just that corallites are so much more shallow than I associate with dipastraea? It's closest and now you got me looking at more specimens, the 5th truncatus photo in Veron looks dead on.

Now that I think of it, new polyps do form from inside so that supports it being dipsastrea (or at least not some of the others).

Thank you!

I need to pick up the latest coral finder from Russell Kelly, those books are really good for IDing stoney corals. I have the 2021 version, but he’s updated them along the way. I think he has a softie version coming out soon or is working on it now?

Ooh yeah on the site it's already got a button for octocorals and says "coming soon" that's exciting.
