It’s just the difference between a mature tank vs. new tank. Once you get coralline growing all over the rock, the HA can’t get a foothold. And if you have good CUC, they will mow down the little patches that pop up. The problem for newer tanks is we don’t have coralline algae and once HA starts, it can grow everywhere. Just imagine your CUC have to cover a whole football field. While the mature tanks, the CUC just have to cover the end zones.

Just have to be patient for tank to mature and keep system parameters stable for coralline to spread. Also helps if you starting with live rock or cured rock than dead rock. Typically, tank starts to mature after 1 year. YMMV.

If you have coralline covered rocks, then you should be golden. Just have to add some CUC or blenny for smaller tanks.

If my tank is too small for tangs and rabbit fish what would y’all recommend to battle my GHA? I had an urchin before but that thing would either get stuck in my rock or knock over my coral lol
