I had 2 pink streaked wrasses, 1 pearly jawfish, and 1 helfrichi firefish. 30 gallon tank, about 25 lbs of live rock, 3 inches of sand. ammonia 0, nitrites and nitrates 0.

One of the pink streaked has disappeared and I looked all around the floor (I have a hood), in the overflow, in the rocks (without removing them), looked for a dead fish and can't find anything. I presume the missing wrasse is dead as it's been 6 days since I've seen it. The other pink streak swam with it and sometimes would chase it around a little. didn't think much of it at the time.

Strangely enough... around this time my pearly jawfish who was the first inhabitant of the tank was spooked out of his hole. Started wandering and making new holes in the corner of the tank (where he couldn't really hide very well). I got him to return to his original hole, but it's no longer eating. it will look at food, watch it fall or float in front of it and do nothing. Sometimes it will make an action like it might eat it, then stop.

I have given up the wrasse for dead, but what is happening to the pearly jawfish? The jawfish looks healthy, no dots, no issues with fins or gills as far as i can see. other fish look healthy and are eating fine. any ideas on if these two things have a correlation? what can i do to get him to eat again?

If you have small tiny cuts on your hand when you put your hand in the water you'll feel it. I had a Pearly Jawfish a little while ago. Was fine in the divided tank for like a month, put em in my display and my cleaner wrasse harassed him to a corner in the front till he quit eating and died. My first link streak also disappeared but my second one is doing freaking great. Go figure. I'm glad you got to at least keep one of the two :)

yea man, i have no idea where that other wrasse went. it made me kind of sad b/c the two wrasses looked really cool swimming around together. i checked everywhere too.

well i unplugged the pumps and the skimmer. the only thing i didn't unplug last night were the heaters. i don't see any kinks in the cords and the other fish are doing just fine. so i don't think it's electrical.

could it be that with the quick addition of two fish swimming and shrimp in his area has scared him enough to stop eating? i added two shrimp initially, then 2 weeks later the helfrichi, and last the 2 pink streaked 2 weeks after that. prior to that he had the tank to himself for 4 months.

Unless someone was picking on him. If someone was picking on him maybe and although pink streak wrasses are peaceful my yellowtail possum beat the snot put of my starry-eyed possum. Fish can be unpredictable.

So my guess now is that the Jawfish was freaked out by the other fish. Mysis shrimp seems to be the go to right now as the fish eats maybe twenty percent of what I'm throwing into the column in front of the burrow. So it is slowly starting to eat again, but as the other fish seam by to get some food the Jawfish started freaking out again Spinning around but no one is picking on it.

Hopefully it returns to normal eating after awhile. It is encouraging to see it eat a tiny bit.
