Hey guys,
so I know everyone should have a QT and after reading the post on Flukes I need some advice. Problem is I just dont have the room. I know this is probably not the best but can I leave my new fish in a bucket with a air stone for a week or so? Better yet, I have a frag tank connected to my friends display I can keep him in. It has a UV sterilizer hooked up. Would that work and prevent the fish in his display from getting sick if by chance the fish was sick? What are your thoughts. Any quick fix suggestions? Thanks in advance.

the UV will not do it. Noah (@zoarder) has UV in his system, and still got it.

the bucket, in theory, will work, but the whole idea behind QT is to monitor and treat the fish as necessary. you're not gonna be able to see through the sides of the bucket to observe the fish very well. not only that, i think the relatively small space would be stressful to the fish, which would be counter productive to treating parasites.

if you can fit a 5 gal bucket, you should be able to fit a 10g tank? that would be a much better option to be able to put in a sponge filter, air stone, and heater.

When setting up a qt, do you use anything to cycle the tank or just use a fresh batch of mixed water?

Easiest way is put a hob filter in yoursump. Let it marinate fora week or two then but it in the hob filter in your qt
If you don't have space for a qt and need to set one up in a pinch, how else would you do it?

Also, if you're done with hob filter in qt, what's the best way to clean it so the next time you want to 'seed' it with beneficial bacteria from your main tank, you don't introduce whatever 'disease' was in the qt?

Good tip. I guess I'll keep some extra filter pad in my main tank for this purpose.
