I already know the con's in taking a chance with a flame angel or any type of angel in general. I know there's a few in here with em in their reef tanks, please share how you successfully managed to keep one without it going to town on your corals. Really leaning on adding one soon!!

1/3 isn't bad at all Tangwich, I'm really interested in keeping one myself but i'm worried I may have to buy a second if the first doesn't work out... I may post a WTB thread for one that doesn't have a history of nibbling corals.

Mine was great. But if I ever went out of town and skipped a day of feeding he would pick at my soft corals

I actually need one that will put my tomini tang on check, he's the enforcer currently but over does it. He's killed a few tenants already, was thinking of taking em out but maybe all that is needed is a little balance!! If your interested in selling though on a serious note, let me know

I had one, I was convinced it was a great fish until all my acans started to look angry all the time. I did not want to believe it was the Flame. However, I covered the acans with a strawberry basket and sure enough they looked happy again. Got rid of the flame angel and everything went back to normal.

I'd probably be ok with getting rid of my acans and a few other corals if that were the case. As long as it doesn't go after my zoas

Had one for about 6 years in a LPS tank years ago.. We didn't keep Zoas back then. Never had a problem. In THIS century, I had a Flame in my SPS tank and aside from the occasional exploratory nip at a zoa or two, no problem. Overall, model citizen. Then one day, up and dead. Go figure..

I do agree with several above that keeping them fed and not thinking about your corals is key. But........ There is ALWAYS a chance with ANY Angels picking on corals/Zoas. Personally, I like em, and I keep em.
Go for it..

I got one now, mixture of LPS, SPS, softies, etc. never nipped, but it's only been 6 months or so. Only thing it goes after is new additions to the tank...

He'll definitely be the last fish addition to my tank. Have you ever missed a feeding, how many times s day do you feed your tank?

I have occasionally but I never noticed any negative effects on my corals or other fish. I feed my tank once a day for water quality. If I had a stronger skimmer I would do it multiple times a day and feed more...

Oh wow, you got a good one. I normally feed 2-3 times a day, so I'm thinking that will hopefully be plenty!! I'm hoping their good with eating pellets & nori, I feed shrimp sometimes once a day. Some days just flake & seaweed or graze disk
BeanMachine your over stocked on zoas if anything lol

I see it pecking at rocks and the glass all the time outside of feeding times... Never caught it munching on any corals. But it's not like I have high end ones to worry about haha
