Im not sure but kind of looks like a sponge maybe. Is it soft? I had something like that growing on my palys and I just took a soft tooth brush and gently scraped as much off as I could without damaging the coral, then did a dip and eventually it went away.

Usually a sign of tank health. They clean water which makes them good but they will compete with coral as in your situation. Maybe dipping them kills it but I honestly don't know.

No sorry, wasn't precise with my words. What I meant is that they're usually a sign of good tank health. I meant it showed health versus lack of…but it doesn't read that way outside my head, lol. Healthy tank, but unfortunate placement of the sponge. You could take a blade to it and scrape it off.

If you pull it out of the water for a couple of mins should take care of it... sponges get air in their system and die...

I have some growing over several zoas and shrooms. I just kinda regularly peel it off gently with my fingers. At least thats what the guy at the lfs said to do.
