Ok guys,
I know this is going to be a topic that's going to be talked about over and over. But I wanted to know what yalls thought of this solution for killing bryopsis. One low dose treatment and wait for 10 days. It's still too new to know true side effects. Some people actually starting to see GHA dying too. I'm starting to get a few patches of bryopsis on my main base rocks (unable to remove). Considering trying this method but scared due to all the corals(SPS,LPS, Softies) I have.

May have to try a yellow tang but I think my purple tang will bully it.

I just saw a FB post from a hobbyist with an SPS dominant tank that just started the treatment and he's amazed by the results. I'm so tempted.

I had a bryopsys out break in my 45G and the yellow tang did nothing. It's hit or miss. I guess if I stopped feeding the tank it might have gone after it

Yellow tangs hate bryopsis and peroxide works some times, temporarily.....I had bryopsis a while back, Kent tech m worked. Now I think I'm getting bryopsis again in a diff tank but may try this new stuff as tech m is hit or miss

Yeah and I think it's hit or miss with everything in this hobby. LoL plus I hear Kent M has changed their formula and isn't effective anymore.

I thought I read another mag supplement might also work because of that impurity, but I can't recall which brand it was. Maybe Brightwell?

Props to the reefer who discovered this fun fact.

Just some science: fluconazole (aka diflucan) is a anti-fungal drug used in humans, that inhibits fungal cholesterol synthesis, apparently also degrades bryopsis algae growth by some related mechanism. Bryopsis are complex algae, so its not so obvious how fluconazole exactly works.

The question is: how fluconazole would affect your coral, which should be more dlicate than the more evolved algae. As you can tell, few reefers with established tanks are in a hurry to subject their prized coral to the experiment.

It might be hit or miss with Yellow Tangs, but reducing feeding would definitely help. i know mine destroyed my bryopsis years ago. My lFS guy had a massive outbreak in his frag tank and took my advice and threw a yellow Tang in. The Tang destroyed his as well. I heard the same about Kent Marine changing their Mag formula a while back as well. I saw someone claim raising Mag to some crazy high number like 1900 worked for them, don't think I'd try that though.

For some reason it didn't totally work...100% yet but it's better. I'm going to try dosing some bacteria now to out compete any stragglers.

It worked
After the treatment I ran some of Blue Life Phosphate RX and a bag of Seachem Seagel to get Po4 under control.
