FML.. I'm near tears! Why?!

Ok.. Sick of this crap! I have had some lps go downhill after switching from Salinity by Seachem to reef crystal.. Lost a bunch of acan , lobos, a hammer, and now... A month later.. At least!... My favorite piece is suddenly dying! My alk swings from like 7.5 to 8.5 between dosing every other day or so.. Mag hovers around 1200- 1250 , cal around 380. Nitrates 8 ( typically)... I'm so over this! Could it be salt still? I've done about 3 or 4 15gl wcs on my 125 twv tank ( using the new salt) I did do a few w a progressively higher mix of new to acclimate to change. Then 4 totally new salt mix. Any ideas? Is this a goner for sure?

FYI...Reef Crystals fresh mix at 1.026 has an alk of about 11-11.5 last time I checked on a fresh 200g box I got. A larger volume water change at the higher level alk may exacerbate the swings. Are you dosing anything to make up for the daily consumption?

Mag seem low.............I have no clue what my are at, but pretty sure around 1400-1500 from the salt mix I use.

Yes.. I'm dosing alk and mag. I tested my last mix at alk of 8.9 I believe. That was after mixing for like 20 hours. Not sure of that changes it?

this sux.. anyone who's seen my tank knows the story .. but my 12 yr old son bought this at RAP 3 years ago.. using his own cash. Was only 20 bux since it was like 60% receded from a torch coral burn. So it was his "rescue" that turned out to heal beautifully and was our centerpiece coral.. about 9 inch when fluffed out! he's super bummed ..since it's been bulletproof .. till now ;(

No that's not bad. All swing are tough though. You might consider using a Doser to keep things steady. Can't say for sure it was the salt but if it is you may have got a bad batch. What's your po4

I think it might survive, but if the new salt is killing your coral I suggest you switch it out for better brand. I'm not stingy on salt, since I prefer Red Sea products. Try rise your Mag a bit higher into 1350? What's your PO4? 1.0 Alk swing is normal.

Alk 7.2-7.8
Mag - Mix bucket says at 1340
Po4 0.04
No clue where my NO is at.

I had one also reseeding like that and moved it in my frag tank and its slowly healing again. A lot say Reef Crystal is good but since I don't dose or test my water TMP is perfect for me haven't lost ANY corals yet... Sorry Jami I know the feeling wish you were closer so I can help ya out! :,(

Dont give up, i have had LPS that I thought were goners for sure and come back from almost nothin but a tiny bit of flesh.

Thanks .. Yes I'm manually dosing mag and alk.. And occ cal. My tank uses crazy mag and hardly any calcium .. It's weird I've heard :/ my po4 is at 0 w API.. And at .25 w Red Sea ( kinda hard to color match that one )

If ur dosing, I wouldn't use reef crystals. Stick with reg instant ocean. Everyone thinks the most expensive salt will equal the best results. Not true. When I made the switch from Red Sea pro, I was waiting for my tank to go down the drain and all corals to die. But it never did. As a matter of fact I noticed ZERO difference in coral color and growth.

So frustrating! I have other lps ( hammer , spawn, ) zoas , scoly, clams , nems and a few sps that are doing great! Makes no sense..
