Free clownfish

I just bought 2 small male daVinci clownfish from another hobbyist. he said he have them for several months now and they're healthy. I put them in my DT, notice they're sick right away, and got them out. Did I just infected my whole system? F...k me for being too trusting of people. free to anyone who have a QT and can pick up ASAP.

What did you see that showed it was sick?

the whole body was cover in some white slime. I think it could be brooklynella but I'm not 100% sure if that it or something else

shedding slime coat not a good sign. you running an UV?

Unfortunately no UV. I’m planing to just observe for a few weeks. Setup a QT if I see any signs of disease but I’ll probably just give them away to someone who can treat them. Then let the tank run without any fish for 8 to 10 weeks and hope that will takes care of whatever it is before I add fish back

I used to love clowns and thought that they were pretty much indestructible. I didn't QT a few new additions since others (LFS & local reefers) said that they've been QT'ed. Well, I got contracted with Brook that wiped out all clowns in ~48hrs! Expensive lesson for me -- always QT, regardless of where they came from.

This was my story when i bought a clown from my LFS. The clown was well for a few weeks and then didn't feel well and couldn't make it. It wiped my whole tank including the corals, only the diamond goby survived and a few mushrooms. I though first after few weeks that the clown was good to go.

Pretty much all fish are sick prior to you getting them especially if they are wild caught as most are. The only reason they aren't affected as much in the wild is because the parasites and ailments can fall off and go onto other fish kinda like when you get sick and pass it on to your friends then they take it elswhere. In a closed "waterworld petri dish" (aquarium)the parasites and viruses have no choice but to continue attacking the same host as there are no new hosts to choose from.

Unless you actually see them going through and surviving a medicated quarantine they will likely be sick when you get them too. At minimum you should at least do an observation QT. If not you are really asking for it.
