Well, not totally free...

I was leaving work on Monday and found a lost parakeet being attacked by a crow. He lost some cheek feathers but otherwise seems okay and he was definitely somebody's pet. He's not super friendly but I think it's mostly stress and you can handle him (if he bites it's half-hearted). I've gotten him to perch on one hand and eat from the other. I think he can be worked with and would be a cool bird. He's a typical green and yellow budgie. Adult male but probably not that old. Seems healthy and is clearly a trooper.

Hoping to find his owners but if not, he needs a home. I'm in for $60 for the cage, food, perch, and toy but will take $50 for bird and all his stuff (really only trying to recoup my costs). If anyone's interested please PM me and I'll keep you in the loop on whether his owner steps up, which is doubtful but I have to try.

Wow that was really good of you! How did you save it from the crow? I guess i figured it would just fly away if you tried to catch it. Regardless this is insane. Serious amounts of karma your way. Thanks for sharing and i hope you find a good home

Thanks guys. The crow flew away as I was walking by and I noticed the bird grubbing in the mulch. He never once tried to fly away and stayed on the ground. I had a button-down shirt over my t-shirt so I took it off and threw it over him, took him back into the office, clipped his wings, gave him water, boxed him up and drove him home (with a stop at PetSmart on the way). I love budgies but we have cats and one of them is a monster. She already has his number. :( So he can't stay forever!

Thanks Dan for the boost!! :)

Here's where I found him... I took a pic because I thought he was a "wild" bird and would just take off.

Here he is safe and sound behind bars!

I don't think so... This guy has definitely been around humans (he's not that fearful, just wary), seems totally comfortable in a cage and knew what the food dish was. Not once has he tried to fly away. He didn't even really try to get out of the box. :D Somebody lost him. :( A bird who'd been free for years or born wild would never have let me catch him so easily.

Rock Band is awesome. Some of my friends work at Harmonix! (I used to live in Boston.) Rock Band 4 was announced recently. :)

Addit: btw I sing on Expert and at one point had a top 25 worldwide high score for vocals on Call Me When You're Sober in RB2 on Xbox Live... man, I love RB. If anyone wants stickers I have stacks of them for all of the different instruments I brought home from one PAX or another. Pretty sure I still have my badge for the RB launch party too! But you can't have that. :D

Okay, no luck finding the owner and the little guy needs a home. He's pretty young, in good health, and could easily be tamed. He's free with medium-sized cage and extra food, I just ask that he go to a cat-free home with someone who will spend time with him, keep his wings clipped, and not just leave him languishing in his cage. I also have a large, pretty nice powder-coated wrought iron flight cage and stand available if interested for $50 (it's been disassembled since our last budgie passed away a couple of years ago - I think the cage is about 30x20x30 IIRC, plus the stand is maybe 24"). PM if interested!
