I was under the assumption that it's worse for the membrane to be ran for short periods of time. Am I a dumb@$$ for thinking that?
I would never call you a terrible name like that. You are the tank of the century recipient. In my eyes you can do no wrong. Im just relating my opinion and experience. I could be totally wrong. Its just what I have been taught to do.

Thanks for all the answers.

Since we got you here, I have a few questions; Does it matter what GPD membrane I run? I bought a 75 gpd unit but, I would like to run the 95-100 gpd membrane. Any detriment to doing that?

Are all membranes/cartridges made the same? Would a more expensive brand name membrane generally get a better result?

I currently have 50 PSI into the input and I want to raise that. What are your thoughts on the Aquatic Smart buddy booster pump? Its looks easy enough for me to figure out.

Thanks,

One thing you want to look at is rejection ration. Even though you're producing 100gpd, your rejection ratio might be only at 95%. If the TDS of the tap water entering the membrane is 300, your membrane will bring it down to 15 and you'll burn through your DI resin very fast. The more expensive membranes will have a ratio of 98% - 99% rejection.

I have talked to some people in Colorado and even Utah who have water out of the tap at less than 30 TDS. Man are they lucky

yeah, when it comes from a well, the water is very good... it dropped from 400 to below 100 when they started using that one well in our city... recently, they started giving us 100% well water, i wonder what it's at now... but my RO resin last time lasted 4 years until it turned completely brown...
